Four-star wide receiver Evan Stewart announced that he would be decommitting from the University of Texas on Thursday.
Stewart was one of the highest rated commits in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class, falling only behind five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy. He’s rated the No. 5 wide receiver and a top-40 overall player in the nation according to 247Sports.
The Frisco native expressed that he would like to take his time throughout his recruitment and wait to make a firm decision until he’s able to visit college campuses.

Stewart is the first player to decommit throughout Steve Sarkisian’s tenure in Austin. It obviously stings considering he is in the discussion as the top wide receiver in the 2022 cycle, but Texas could still be in good shape if they’re able to land Kevin Coleman (five-star wide receiver), Chris Marshall (four-star wide receiver) or C.J. Williams (four-star wide receiver).
Regardless, it’s discouraging to lose one of the top prospects from within the state.
