Four-star edge Colton Vasek commits to Oklahoma over Texas, Oregon

Vasek had been trending towards Oklahoma over the last few days. Derion Gullette’s recruitment becomes all the more important now.

Local Westlake standout Colton Vasek announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday afternoon.

Vasek was heavily pursued by Texas and Oregon, but Brent Venables and his staff closed the deal at a recruiting event over the weekend. Shortly after his visit to Norman, two 247Sports crystal ball predictions were entered in favor of the Sooners.

While it’s a tough pill to swallow for Texas, considering he is an elite prospect in its backyard, the Longhorns are still in great standing for four-star edge Derion Gullette this cycle.

Vasek is the No. 19 edge in the country and the No. 29 overall player in the state, according to the 247Sports composite.

Although the Longhorns have the No. 5 class in the country for the 2023 cycle with 20 commits, they still desperately need to improve their pass rush.
