Forspoken’s Game Awards trailer reveals May 24, 2022 release date

Magical parkour.

Forspoken, the next RPG from Luminous Productions, got a new trailer at The Game Awards.

Initially revealed in 2020 under the moniker of “Project Athia,” Forspoken is a narrative-driven RPG from the studio that brought us Final Fantasy XV. The story is a smidge more bizarre than a typical Square Enix endeavor (if you can believe that). Frey Holland, the protagonist, is a New York City native that’s somehow found herself in the fantasy world of Athia. Don’t worry, though. A talking bracelet playfully named Cuff is there to keep her company. See what I mean about being weird?

There’s a heavy emphasis on free-flowing, magically-infused parkour gameplay across a massive (potentially) open world, which you can see snippets of in the trailer below.

Interestingly, there’s a lot of big-name western creatives working on Forspoken. Gray Witta, best known for writing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, serves as story lead. While Amy Henning, co-creator of the Uncharted series, is also working on the script. Bear McCreary, known for composing God of War (2018), and Garry Schyman of BioShock fame, are both writing music on Forspoken. So yeah, it’s an all-star team.

Forspoken will launch for PS5 and PC on May 24, 2022.
