Former Washington running back arrested

Adrian Peterson played two seasons for Washington.

Former Washington and future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday morning for domestic violence.

According to Los Angeles airport police, Peterson and his wife Ashley became involved in a verbal and physical altercation while departing LAX airport. What’s more, the airplane actually had to return to the gate because of the altercation.

Peterson was then arrested and charged with felony domestic violence. Peterson’s wife remained on the plane and flew back to Houston where the family home is located.

Airport police received a call Sunday morning around 8:30 am regarding a disturbance on the aircraft headed for Houston.

Peterson was indicted on a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child for hitting his young son with a switch in 2014. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for reckless assault, avoiding serving jail time.

Peterson is a 4-time All-Pro, 2012 NFL MVP, and 7-time Pro Bowler, who spent ten seasons (2007-16) with the Minnesota Vikings, where he led the NFL in rushing three times including rushing for 2,097 yards in 2012.

Peterson ran for the Washington Redskins in 2018 and 2019, leading them in rushing both seasons, including 1,042 yards in 2018.  That season, Peterson accomplished a 90-yard touchdown run in a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Before coming to Washington, Peterson split time with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals during the 20017 season.

The former Oklahoma Sooner running back ran for the Detroit Lions in 2020 gaining 604 yards.

In the 2021 season, Peterson appeared in one game for the Seattle Seahawks and three games for the Tennessee Titans.
