A familiar quarterback is joining the Detroit Lions as they prepare for their postseason run.
Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and has been signed to the Lions’ active roster, per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network.
2024 has been a crazy year for Bridgewater. He retired from the NFL after ten seasons in February. After that, he became the head coach at his alma mater, Miami Northwestern High School. Bridgewater led them to a Division 3A Florida High School Athletic Association state championship earlier this month.
The 32-year-old quarterback was a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. He appeared in 30 games during his first two seasons, helping lead the Vikings to a division title in 2015.
Unfortunately, a catastrophic knee injury derailed his career in Minnesota. He would only appear in one more game as a Viking before joining the Saints in 2018.
Bridgewater spent 2023 with the Lions, appearing in one game. He will again provide a veteran presence behind Jared Goff while second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker continues to learn on the bench.
