Former UNC guard Cole Anthony explodes for season-high vs Bucks

Former UNC basketball guard Cole Anthony exploded for a season-high against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

Former UNC basketball guard [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag] had his best game of the 2022-23 season on Wednesday night despite a loss.

Anthony went for a season-high 28 points on 10-of-16 from the field and 3-of-7 from three. He added seven rebounds, four assists and just one turnover in 33 minutes off of the bench.

It was his sixth 20-point game of the season.

“I got some pretty easy looks early on. Credit to my team, they got me some early looks and I think I did a good job spacing the floor,” Anthony said postgame. “It was nice to see some shots go in.”

Anthony spent the majority of his first two years with the Orlando Magic as a starter. This season, he has started just three games.

Despite the move to a bench role, he’s in the midst of having his most efficient season in his short career. So far he’s averaging 12.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He’s shooting 44.3 percent from the field, up from 39.3 in his first two years. He’s also shooting 49.8 percent on 2s, up from 42.8 percent in his first two seasons. Anthony has scored in double-figures in 23 of the 43 games he’s played.

His turnovers are also down to just 1.5 per game, one less per game than his career average.

Anthony missed 16 games earlier this season with an oblique injury.
