Former two-time NFL rushing leader visiting Patriots on Saturday

Patriots hosting former two-time All-Pro running back for a visit

The search for added depth at the running back position continues for the New England Patriots with the team reportedly visiting with former two-time NFL rushing leader Ezekiel Elliott on Saturday.

This was first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Elliott, 28, is one of many big-name running backs still a free agent due to a declining market at the position.

Make no mistake, there’s plenty of juice left in the tank for the former Dallas Cowboy, and he would be best utilized in more of a secondary role to complement another workhorse playmaker.

Enter Rhamondre Stevenson.

Elliott might be the option that makes the most sense for the Patriots, particularly with his versatility and ability to handle early-down work when needed. The Patriots also need depth with Ty Montgomery working his way through an injury and James Robinson being cut back in June.

They had Leonard Fournette and Darrell Henderson in for workouts last week. So the fact that they’re actually visiting with Elliott does make this recent report feel different from the others. Perhaps there’s real interest in making Elliott a Patriot.
