Former Tide Pitcher Spencer Turnbull Throws No-Hitter

Former Alabama ace and current Detroit Tiger Spencer Turnbull threw a no-hitter Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners.

In “while you were sleeping” news, former Alabama ace and current Detroit Tiger Spencer Turnbull threw a no-hitter Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners.

The no-hitter thrown by Turnbull was the fifth no-hitter thrown in the MLB already this season, and the second one that was thrown against Seattle. Turnbull did so by throwing only 117 pitches, with an astonishing 77 of them being for strikes.

“It is by far the best night of my life, most exciting and it’s definitely kind of like one of those landmark stamps on my career up to this point,” Turnbull said in an article from ESPN.

It was the eighth no-hitter in Tigers history, and the first since Justin Verlander threw a no-hitter against Toronto in 2011.

Turnbull played two seasons for Alabama from 2012-13, where he went 4-3 with a 3.75 ERA and recorded 51 strikeouts in 90 innings of work during his sophomore season, where he started in all 15 games that he appeared. He was drafted by Detriot 63rd overall in 2014.
