One of the handful of younger players that departed Texas’ program this offseason was linebacker Trevell Johnson.
The Arlington, Texas native is a former three-star from the class of 2022 who didn’t register a stat this past season. The hybrid linebacker/safety could have been one of the newer guys to emerge on defense, but by Johnson entering the portal it was evident that a change of scenery was viewed as the best option.
The Martin product took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he will be transferring to the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Johnson will likely have a much better chance to carve out a role for himself, especially when you consider he was more of a tweener. He will have four years of eligibility left for the Warhawks.
While losing depth is never what a coach wants, the Longhorns are extremely experienced in the secondary. They added highly touted Arkansas transfer Jalen Catalon, and also have Jerrin Thompson returning as well. Their backups have both seen significant snaps in Kitan Crawford and Michael Taaffe. At linebacker, Texas has one of the best linebackers in the country in Jaylan Ford, who is expected to be joined by veteran David Gbenda, and of course the highly touted five-star, Anthony Hill.
As it stands right now, there are only just a few more Longhorns remaining in the portal, headlined by former Alabama wide receiver Agiye Hall.
