Former Texas football player receives heart transplant

After a long battle with cardiomyopathy, Peter Mpagi receives a new heart.

Peter Mpagi received a new heart on Aug. 25. The former Texas football player finally found a resolution to a lingering heart issue that began before he retired from football.

Since 2019, Mpagi has battled cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that prevents optimal blood flow to the body.

The former edge rusher played football at George Ranch High School in Richmond, Texas before committing to the Longhorns.

Gabe Brooks of 247Sports wrote the following of Mpagi as a high school prospect.

Shows fairly good quickness off the ball. Closes well relative to size. Flashes enough speed to beat tackles around the edge. Has also shown inside counter after setting up opponent outside. Cognizant of passing lanes and gets hands up when he can’t get to the QB.

Clearly, Mpagi was a good high school player, but he has represented the University of Texas well since retiring from football.

With all that has gone against him over the last few years, it appears his circumstances are taking a turn for the better.
