After helping lead Texas A&M basketball to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, Dexter Dennis is ready to begin his next chapter at the NBA level.
According to a source shared with MavsDraft.com, the former Aggie lockdown defender has signed with the Orlando Magic’s Summer League team. Dennis retweeted the report on Friday to his own Twitter page.
Despite being categorized as one of the best defensive prospects in this year’s class, Dennis did not hear his name called by one of 30 NBA teams during the 2023 NBA Draft. While mock drafts didn’t forecast him landing in the first round, it was surprising that a franchise didn’t look to call his name by the end of round two.
After spending four seasons at Wichita State, Dennis transferred to Texas A&M for his final year of eligibility. In 34 games for the Aggies, he averaged his second-best scoring mark of 9.5 points per game, while recording a career-best 5.7 rebounds per game and nearly a steal per game (0.8).

Given that Dennis embraced the two-way role he had with the Aggies, his scoring marks at the collegiate level may not immediately jump off the page. However, he’s proven adept at finding the basket when called upon, as he shot a strong 48.1 percent on two-pointers last season, while his 33.6 percent average from deep highlights his potential as a 3-and-D type of player.
Don’t overlook his 28-point performance (11-15 shooting, 4-5 from three) at the NTX Combine, either, as he’s more than liable to be a walking bucket when the moment calls for it.
You can catch Dennis in action when the Magic face the Detroit Pistons in their first Summer League matchup on Saturday, July 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT and the game will air on ESPN.
