The NFL is a tough job.
Injuries happen every day, and like most sports, the mantra is next man up. In the Green Bay Packers locker room, the linebacker position is thin right now, and they needed to bring in outside help to be that next man up.
On Tuesday undrafted free agent Chris Russell signed a three-year deal with the Packers per his agent. The former Texas A&M linebacker had an up-and-down career at A&M, but he showed plenty of promise during his time in Aggieland. He amassed 112 tackles, 10 TFL, 4.5 sacks, and 1 interception during his tenure with the program, while the 2022 seasos was his best.
His combination of size and speed makes him worth taking a flyer on while the Packers allow their current linebackers to take some time to recover. At the minimum, they will get a good look at a talented athlete that might do enough to make the team in some aspect.
Russell will reunite with former Aggie standout linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who was Green Bay’s second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
