The narrative of the Pittsburgh Steelers signing free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston is like a zombie. It just won’t die. And now, with former head coach Bill Cowher on the bandwagon, you can bet this idea is only going to pick up steam.

“I think it’s a great fit,” Cowher said. “If he’s willing to accept a year sitting behind Ben. And maybe it’s two years.”

Last season, Winston gained mainstream media attention when he threw 30 interceptions to go with 33 touchdown passes. Quite an accomplishment to be sure. But why would Winston come to a team like the Steelers with very little money to spend and a franchise quarterback in place?

For Winston to come to Pittsburgh he’d have to concede he’s not ready to start right now in a league desperate for starting quarterbacks. Not to mention the amount of money the Steelers could pay him would be a pittance compared to what some teams might be willing to pay him.
