Former Seahawks assistant Dave Canales to be Panthers head coach

Dave Canales will be taking over as the next Carolina Panthers head coach, according to Adam Schefter at ESPN. Canales is coming from Tampa, where he did tremendous work with Baker Mayfield and the Buccaners in his first year as offensive coordinator.

Before the worked for the Bucs, Canales was long-time assistant for the Seahawks. He followed Pete Carroll from USC and served as Seattle’s wide receivers coach from 2010-2017, then a couple years as passing game coordinator and in 2022 he was their quarterbacks coach.

Canales has his work cut out for him in Carolina, though. No team has less to work with on offense and No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young is on his way to being a bust. They went 2-15 this past season, the worst record in the league, but the Bears own their No. 1 pick this time around.

With the Panthers off the board there are now just three head coach openings left: the Seahawks, the Falcons and the Commanders.
