Former Rutgers football recruit Jahzion Harris enters transfer portal

Jahzion Harris, a former Rutgers football recruit, enters the transfer portal.

Jahzion Gross is in the transfer portal, the former New York City four-star defensive lineman looking to land at another program and potentially play his college football closer to home.

The highly recruited Harris spent last season at Texas A&M. He had offers that included LSU, Maryland, Miami and Michigan.

A source close to the situation tells RutgersWire that there is a very strong belief that Harris could end up close to home and playing for the Scarlet Knights.

The class of 2021 defensive end was ranked as the second-best player in New York and the No. 208 recruit in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite.

Last season as a true freshman for the Aggies, Harris appeared in two games with four total tackles and a sack in wins over Prairie View and Kent State.

According to a report from On3, Harris has “expressed an intent to be closer to home.”

Were Rutgers to land Harris, it would be a big potential addition for Rutgers, The Scarlet Knights need help along the defensive line, in particular the edge position.

And Harris, being a former standout at a New York City powerhouse, also would help Rutgers in recruiting the five boroughs.

Rutgers currently has a strong pipeline to Erasmus Hall that includes defensive back Kessawn Abraham, wide receiver Aron Cruickshank and wide receiver Sean Ryan. Cruickshank and Ryan were both transfer portal additions to the program.
