Former Penn State safety Lamont Wade released by Steelers

Former Penn State safety is once again an NFL free agent

While Penn State is preparing to play its first game of the 2021 season this week, NFL teams are winding down their training camps and trimming their rosters to get to the league maximum of 53 players on an active roster. O Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers made some cuts from the team to begin getting to the 53-man roster, and that has resulted in a former Nittany Lion once again becoming a free agent as the season draws near.

Lamont Wade was among the nine players officially released by the Steelers on Saturday, at least temporarily putting Wade’s NFL plans on hold. Wade signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of the 2021 NFL draft.

During his time at Penn State, Wade played in 47 games with 22 starts during his four years with the Nittany Lions.

Now a free agent, we will continue to monitor what opportunities are available to Wade as teams look to add another safety t the roster or practice squad.
