Former Patriots target free agent safety signing with Bills

One former safety that visited the Patriots in the offseason is now joining the Bills.

Former Los Angeles Rams safety Taylor Rapp is reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rapp visited the New England Patriots in the offseason, and there were thoughts that he might potentially agree to a deal with the team, especially after legendary safety Devin McCourty announced his retirement.

But then the Patriots made the move to re-sign Jalen Mills, who was initially released from the team. Mills, who joined New England as a cornerback, is expected to move back to playing at the safety position. So he will likely take over the role left behind by Devin McCourty.

That cleared the way for Rapp to join the Bills.

Mills has a better grasp of what the Patriots do defensively, and he’ll be moving back to his more natural position.

It’s a win for New England to keep him on the field, while turning over the cornerback reins to Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones and Jack Jones.
