The ol’ riverboat is continuing to make its stops this offseason.
According to CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones, former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has interviewed with the Los Angeles Rams for their opening at defensive coordinator. The chat, per Jones, took place this past weekend.
Before his tenure in Charlotte, Rivera picked up two separate stints as an NFL defensive coordinator. The first, which included an appearance in Super Bowl XLI, came with the Chicago Bears from 2004 to 2006 and the second with the then-San Diego Chargers from 2008 to 2010.
Rivera then went on to spend nine seasons at the helm in Carolina, where he became the winningest head coach in franchise history. Under Rivera, the Panthers captured three NFC South titles and an NFC championship.
After he and the organization parted ways in 2019, Rivera landed in the nation’s capital to lead the Washington Commanders. He was fired back on Jan. 8 following a 26-40-1 mark at the position.
The 62-year-old had also reportedly interviewed for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator vacancy, one that has since been filled by Vic Fangio.
