Former Packers TE Josiah Deguara signing with Jaguars

The Packers are losing free agent TE Josiah Deguara to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former Green Bay Packers tight end Josiah Deguara is signing a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

Deguara was a third-round pick of the Packers in the 2020 draft. He played in 50 games (10 starts) and was on the field for 832 offensive snaps and 559 special teams snaps across four seasons with the Packers.

Deguara suffered a season-ending knee injury after only two games as a rookie. He returned and played in 48 games over the last three seasons, but his impact — both as a blocker and receiver — never really blossomed.

In Matt LaFleur’s offense, Deguara operated mostly as a hybrid fullback/tight end, or H-back. He caught 47 passes on 58 targets for 436 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2023, Deguara caught only eight passes and was on the field for fewer than 20 percent of the offense’s snaps. He did finish third on the team in special teams snaps (219).

Deguara joins safety/slot cornerback Darnell Savage as the second Packers free agent to sign with the Jaguars this offseason.

The Packers developed undrafted free agent Henry Pearson in the H-back role last season. Brian Gutekunst is returning Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft and Ben Sims at tight end, and Tyler Davis re-signed on a one-year deal.
