Adrian Peterson is back in the NFC North.
After being released from the Washington Football Team just two days ago, the former Oklahoma running back has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions, per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Peterson saw somewhat of a return to form in Washington, totaling 462 carries for 1,940 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’ll look to continue his resurgence with the Lions.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that his contract is worth $1.05 million.
Peterson told NFL Network last month that he’s still chasing two things: Emmit Smith’s career rushing yards record and a Super Bowl ring.
“That’s one of the goals I set to myself when I entered the NFL was to pass the GOAT,” he said. “I look forward to playing a couple more years, 3-4 more years, who knows, depending on how my body is feeling.”
His career rushing mark sits at 14,216 yards. He would need 4,410 more to eclipse Smith’s record.
Regarding the Super Bowl, Detroit may not be the premiere destination for that one. The Lions finished 3-12-1 last season.
Compensation update I: New Lions’ RB Adrian Peterson is signing a one-year, $1,050,000 deal, plus incentives with Detroit, per league source.
