Former Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray has quickly risen up the ranks of biggest young stars in the NFL in his second year with the Arizona Cardinals.
Last Sunday, his Cardinals pulled off an incredible win in the final moments against the Buffalo Bills on a desperation heave into the endzone by Murray that found the hands of receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
After that play, the term “Hail Murray” became of popular use on social media and in sports talk shows. Now, Murray wants to get it, along with “Murray Magic”, trademarked.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who in turn was reporting information via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, the phrase will be used for future apparel purposes.
Florio quickly wanted to dispel any talk of Murray being perceived as greedy for this move in his article about the trademark filing.
“Before anyone suggests that Murray is being greedy or whatever, remember this: If there’s a market for this kind of stuff, shouldn’t Murray be the one who benefits from it?” Florio wrote. “Plenty of radio shows and websites currently sell merchandise that infringes on the names and likenesses of others. The people who are responsible for the exploits should be the ones who profit.”
Murray and Arizona were unable to follow up that miraculous win with another, though, as they fell to the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night 28-21.
