A former Ohio State hoops star and assistant coach is reportedly joining one of the most storied NBA franchises as their top assistant coach. According to multiple reports, Chris Jent is set to be hired by the Los Angeles Lakers as head coach Darvin Ham’s right hand man.

Jent played for Ohio from 1988-1992 and helped lead OSU to two Big Ten titles during his time in Columbus. He was known for a hard-nosed hustling style that endeared him to Buckeye fans before heading off to the NBA for a very brief career that resulted in him winning a ring with the Houston Rockets in 1994.

It’s coaching where Jent made a bigger mark. He’s had several stops in the NBA as an assistant and two different stints at Ohio State. He was the head coach of the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development league in 2015-2016.

Jent was most recently an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks from 2017 until being plucked away by L.A.
