The 2021 NFL draft class is loaded with quarterbacking talent, ranging from various systems, play styles and abilities.
For quite some time, it has been unanimously agreed upon that former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the No. 1 overall pick, this year belonging to Jacksonville.
Other names such as BYU’s Zach Wilson, NDSU’s Trey Lance, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Alabama’s Mac Jones are projected to be called on in the first round, following Lawrence.
Ranking quarterbacks after Lawrence is an often-debated topic. Some argue that Fields will be the second quarterback taken off the board, whereas others believe Wilson is the true ‘QB2’.
Former NFL coach for the Chargers and Falcons, June Jones, has a unique take. He’s not looking to discuss who is the second best in the draft class.
He believes the best quarterback available in the 2021 NFL draft is former Crimson Tide Heisman finalist, Mac Jones.
“Mac’s deep-ball accuracy is probably the best that I have graded in my years of coaching quarterbacks,” June Jones said. “He’s almost at 55 percent at over 20 yards, which is unbelievable.”
Jones also received high praise for his ability to read his options.
“(Mac Jones) is a receiver watcher,” June Jones said. “I could tell watching him on television when they had the right camera angle. And I really think that is huge for him. It’s how he naturally throws the deep ball.”
Jones is currently projected to be a mid-to-late round pick in the first round.
Roll Tide Wire will publish any updates on the status of Mac Jones’ ranking leading up to the 2021 NFL draft.
