Michigan and Ohio State have a long history of one side working with the other eventually.

Bo Schembechler was a grad assistant and coach under Woody Hayes in Columbus before eventually ending up becoming a legend in Ann Arbor. Gary Moeller was a captain for the Buckeyes before joining Schembechler’s staff and eventually succeeding him.

Additionally, there have been others who have been with both teams. Current Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner was the co-offensive coordinator in Columbus, and was on staff when OSU won the College Football Playoff in 2014. Last year, Al Washington, the son of a Buckeyes captain, and Greg Mattison defected to Columbus from Ann Arbor.

It’s the nature of the beast.

But this isn’t something we’ve seen recently: 2015 team captain for the maize and blue Joe Bolden is now on staff with the scarlet and grey.

An Ohio native, Bolden has been rising through the coaching ranks since graduating. He started as a grad assistant for Michigan before getting an opportunity at Washington State and then USC. Now, he’s suiting up with his former enemy in Columbus.

It’s the way the college football world works, but assuredly, Michigan fans aren’t going to like it.
