Reunited and it feels so good.

After spending a few years back in Ann Arbor as a grad assistant for Michigan football, former Wolverines linebacker Mike McCray went down to rival Notre Dame to continue working as an assistant behind the scenes. However, a new opportunity opened up for the former team captain, when former Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown was named to the UMass head coaching post. As Brown, who spent last season as Arizona’s defensive coordinator, fills out his staff, it was announced he’s bringing in his former MIKE in 2017, as UMass announced McCray as the team’s new outside linebackers coach.

McCray is another example of former Wolverines linebackers finding coaching gigs upon leaving the sport as a player. Desmond Morgan has gone from being a graduate assistant at Maryland to coaching on-field at Indiana State. Joe Bolden was a grad assistant in Ann Arbor before going to Washington State and USC and then landing a quality control assistant job at Ohio State. James Ross was a behind-the-scenes assistant at Michigan and now is a linebackers coach at Hope College. Allen Gant went from Slippery Rock to being the defensive coordinator at West Virginia Wesleyan and is currently the linebackers coach at Fordham.
