The past several years, Michigan football’s two best on-field coaches were widely considered to be offensive line coach Ed Warinner and cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich. However, when both were surprisingly relieved of their duties this offseason, they didn’t exactly land at parallel institutions.

Warinner ended up joining former Jim Harbaugh assistant Willie Taggart at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton and now we know where Zordich appears to be headed.

According to Christian Booher, a writer for Central Michigan’s student newspaper, CM Life, head coach Jim McElwain — a former Michigan assistant himself — announced that Zordich has been added to the Chippewa’s coaching staff. Booher did not note what Zordich’s coaching role will be at this juncture.

In Zordich’s first five years in Ann Arbor, Michigan was never worse than 10th nationally in pass defense, with the Wolverines being a top 3 pass defense in his first four seasons. However, in 2020, the maize and blue secondary, with two new starters in Vincent Gray and Gemon Green at corner and returning starters Daxton Hill and Brad Hawkins at safety, were 90th in the country in overall pass defense.

For Central Michigan’s 2021 coaching staff roster, there is no secondary or cornerbacks coach currently listed.
