Former LSU tight end Arik Gilbert is back home in Georgia, meaning the Tigers will have to face the former Gatorade Player of the Year who was once on their own team.
He won’t be lining up at tight end anymore, though. Looking at the UGA roster, Gilbert is listed as a wide receiver.
Georgia quarterback JT Daniels, a highly heralded player himself who could end up emerging as the best quarterback in the conference, recently had high praise for Gilbert.
It’s important the two develop chemistry, considering Gilbert could be catching a lot of passes from Daniels in the future.

“I’ve been asked more about Arik more than anything else today and I keep saying the same thing,” said Georgia quarterback JT Daniels, himself a transfer from Southern California. “There are players who have great talent and like football, and then there’s guys like Arik who have great talent and love football.
“He spends time with coaches, like hours with coaches, to learn a brand-new system, learn the signals, learn how specifically we run routes and how specifically, as receivers and tight ends, they read defenses. He does a lot of the things that really impress you regardless of his talent level. He’s a special player.”
It sounds like Gilbert has done his homework and is quickly earning the respect of those around him.
In his short time at LSU, the 6-foot-5, 248-pounder reeled in 35 passes for 368 yards with two touchdowns over eight appearances before he ultimately opted out.
It will be interesting to see what he accomplishes with some new scenery and an incredibly solid passer in Daniels.
