Former LSU safety Grant Delpit will miss his rookie year with Achilles injury

Ex-LSU safety Grant Delpit will miss his rookie NFL season with an injury.

Former LSU star Grant Delpit went down with a leg injury in Monday’s practice with the Cleveland Browns.

The team was concerned that Delpit had suffered an Achilles injury, meaning he’ll miss his entire rookie season.

On Monday night, Delpit’s fears were confirmed when Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported Delpit did indeed tear his Achilles.

This is an unfortunate injury for Delpit and the Browns. The No. 44 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft was having an outstanding camp with Cleveland and expected to start at safety.

Now, Delpit will have to wait a year before making an impact in the NFL.

Delpit, a two-time All-American at LSU, won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2019, given annually to college football’s top defensive back.

The Browns have faced several injuries thus far in training camp, with another former LSU star, cornerback Greedy Williams, also going down on Monday.
