Former LSU quarterback Walker Howard back in the transfer portal

Former five-star QB Walker Howard is back in the transfer portal

Another former LSU quarterback is reportedly on the move.

[autotag]Walker Howard[/autotag] will enter the transfer portal, according to a report released Sunday by CBS Sports and 247Sports. He is the second former Tiger QB to do so this offseason as TJ Finley announced his intention on Saturday.

Howard was one of the top QB recruits in LSU history, but following the 2022 season at LSU, Howard transferred to Ole Miss where he didn’t see much action behind starter Jaxon Dart. Through two years with the Rebels, Howard totaled three completions for 56 yards in four games.

The move isn’t surprising. In 2024, Howard was Ole Miss’ third-string QB as Austin Simmons ascended to the backup role.

The Lafayette, LA native is the son of former Tigers quarterback Jamie Howard (1992-1995). He committed to his dad’s alma mater in June 2020 and was rated a five-star prospect by Rivals. According to On3’s industry rankings, Howard was the No. 4 recruit in Louisiana and No. 6 quarterback in the 2022 class.

In his sole season donning the purple and gold, Howard completed two passes for seven yards through two appearances. He played behind Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels before deciding to play at Ole Miss.

The report of Howard’s intentions comes on the same day as bowl game announcements. The Rebels will face Duke in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on January 2.
