Former Longhorns head coach officially joins Urban Meyer’s staff in Jacksonville

Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong will serve as the Jacksonville Jaguars inside linebackers coach.

Former Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong has officially been hired by Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This is a reunion for both Strong and Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer, who coached together from 2005-09 at the University of Florida and won two National Championships together. There’s multiple collegiate ties within Meyer’s staff, including former Texas defensive coordinator Chris Ash who will serve as the Jaguars secondary coach.

Strong’s tenure at Texas concluded with a 16-21 overall record in three seasons after taking over for legendary head coach Mack Brown. On Thursday, the Jaguars officially announced that Strong will serve as the assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach.

Since his Texas tenure, Strong spent 2017-2019 as the head coach of the University of South Florida before being let go and subsequently hired as a defensive analyst by Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide

Strong and Meyer return to the state of Florida with even more championship aspirations.
