Former Longhorn Shane Buechele joins Sam Ehlinger a top the active ranks

Former Longhorn Shane Buechele has now joined his former teammate on top of the active leaderboards. He and sam Ehlinger are at 9,000 yards.

When Sam Ehlinger got to campus in 2017, no one knew that Shane Buechele was going to end up leaving after the 2018 college football season. Shane was a sophomore when Ehlinger arrived, and he was named the starter ahead of the 2017 opener.

Buechele would appear in nine games that season and two the following season. He would transfer to SMU and become the guy for that team in 2019. Not a big shock due to the fact that he was a Charlie Strong recruit. Ehlinger was part of Strong’s last class but he stayed committed to Texas with Tom Herman arriving. Seemed clear early on that Herman favored Ehlinger. Both quarterbacks have done good things on the field for their teams.

Now Shane Buechele joins his former teammate in Sam Ehlinger a top the active ranks. Following the win over UTEP, Ehlinger passed the 9,000 yard mark for his career. In the game on Saturday night Buechele joined Ehlinger passing the 9,000 yard mark for his career as well. These are the only two active quarterbacks to pass the 9,000 yard mark.

Ehlinger might have the edge in passing touchdowns and rushing yards, it will be an interesting race this season. Which quarterback will finish with the most yards over a career? You should never bet against Sam Ehlinger in anything but it could be a friendly rivalry between former teammates.
