The Baltimore Ravens terminated former Texas star Earl Thomas’ contract two months ago for personal conduct that had adversely affected the team.
His troubled behavior poured off the field as well. Prior to the termination, Thomas was involved with an altercation with his wife where he was held at gunpoint.
The final straw for the Ravens was the training camp fight with safety Chuck Clark this offseason. Although Thomas admitted to being at fault and having a lapse in judgement at the time, several other factors added up to his release.
Thomas was reportedly late to team meetings on several occasions, ultimately resulting in a fine. In 2019, he was also noticeably in a confrontation with defensive tackle Brandon Williams.
His behavior was toxic enough that no other NFL organization has since taken a chance on signing the former Pro Bowl safety. Thomas has reportedly been in talks with a few teams such as the Houston Texans, but he remains unsigned at this time.
The grievance has been filed on his behalf by the NFL Players Association, according to reports. Thomas was due a guaranteed $10 million in base salary this season.
With the grievance filed, $4 million will be added to the Baltimore’s salary cap figure. If Thomas were to win the grievance, the Ravens would have a $6 million cap hit.
