A former Husker completed play in the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament earlier in the week in Istanbul. Thorir Thorbjarnarson led Iceland to their first win in group play with a 93-76 win over Bulgaria.
Thorbjarnson led Iceland off the bench with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting with four rebounds and two assists. Thorbjarnarson played at Nebraska from 2018 to 2021.
In 93 career games, he made 43 starts averaging 4.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Last season, he played professionally for Oviedo CB of the Spanish LEB Oro league.
He now plays for theTindastoll of the Icelandic Basketball League. Thorbjarnarson is also a 2x Icelandic Basketball Cup champion and a 3X Icelandic champion.
Iceland finished with a record of 1-2 and did not advance beyond the Group Stage.
