NFL players voted to approve ratification to the collective bargaining agreement on Sunday, setting up labor peace for the next decade.
As part of the incoming changes, the NFL will now have a 17-game regular season and a three-game preseason beginning in 2021, a new playoff format with two additional teams in 2020 and more money will go to the players over time.
However, there was a clear line in the sand between players who wanted to approve the proposed CBA and those who didn’t, which was reflected in the 1,019-959 vote tally.
Worse yet? Nearly 500 players didn’t bother to vote at all.
Here’s how former members of the New York Giants reacted to the vote and the vote tally (current Giants did not weigh in as of this writing):
Y’all really sold the future for some weed and another game……. pic.twitter.com/iF988hZotD

Honestly this is one of the most surprising things in the new CBA. Y’all let the owners use weed as a bargaining chip. WEED https://t.co/JFQhgHYTum

The players voted yes on the new CBA. How would I have voted? https://t.co/t8FlTty95p

500+ voices.. 500+ opinions… hella disappointing. Couldn’t even vote on your own future. Can’t even comprehend it…

We definitely lost.

It kills me that guys who have shown little to no interest in the negotiations of this CBA wait till final offer is on table & votes are being counted to come out and talk about how bad it is or what needs to be changed. You have had AMPLE time to get voice heard and get involved

It’s official! 51.5% of #NFL players voted yes, approving the new CBA!
This was the best decision the players could have made to serve the MOST, but not all players.
No, it’s not yet a level playing field with owners, but players avoid a work stoppage & make progress!
