Former Florida linebacker Jesiah Pierre has found a new home. On Dec. 21, Matt Zenitz of AL.com reported that the redshirt freshman had entered the transfer portal, and on Jan. 1, Pierre announced that he was transferring to Texas Tech. He will have to sit out the 2021 season, per NCAA transfer rules.

“It was the defensive analysts who really reached out to me first – coach Conor Dubin and then coach (Kirby) Ennis – those guys really showed interest in me and told me they were very interested in me,” Pierre told RedRaiderSports. “They were interested in me as in who I was, what kind of player I was, really paying attention. Those were the guys that hit me up first and then that led to the other assistants like the linebackers coach, the defensive coordinator and then eventually the head coach, Matt Wells.”

Pierre joined the Gators program as a three-star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. A graduate of Mount Dora Christian Academy in Mount Dora, Fla., he committed to UF in July of 2018 and early enrolled the next January.

He redshirted his first season, appearing in games against UT-Martin and Towson, though he didn’t record a stat. This year, he saw the field in 11 games, but his production was limited. He found himself behind players like Mohamoud Diabate, Ventrell Miller and James Houston IV (who also recently entered the transfer portal) on the linebacker depth chart.

In 2020, he made eight total tackles (three solo) and had half a tackle for loss.
