Penn State is in some significant need of beefing up the offensive line, and a four-star player who had been committed to another Big Ten program could be on the radar. JaSire Peterson, rated four stars by 247 Sports but a three-star recruit using the composite ranking from 247 Sports, announced on his Twitter account on Friday that he has decommitted from Rutgers. The New Jersey native is now officially on the market and exploring some other potential options.
“After talking to my family and coaches, I am writing this to announce that I am reopening my recruitment and decommitting from Rutgers University,” Peterson said in a statement posted to his Twitter account on Friday. “I am and was humbled by Rutgers offer, but it would not be fair to their coaches if I went on visits to other schools. I need to make sure I am making the right choice for my family and myself.”
Penn State just so happens to be in that conversation, at least for a day. According to Lions 247, Peterson will be among those attending Penn State’s junior day event on Saturday. Peterson is reportedly scheduled to make a visit to Rutgers on Sunday as well.
It is also worth noting that just hours after announcing his decommitment from Rutgers, Peterson announced he had received an offer from Syracuse, with the Orange potentially jumping in on the opportunity to make a push on the recruiting trail.

Penn State, as of now, has not extended an offer to Peterson, although it would not be shocking to see one handed to him during the junior day event in Happy Valley, especially in light of recent developments.
Penn State has made an effort to improve the quality of the offensive linemen with its latest recruiting haul, and adding Peterson in the Class of 2023 would seem to continue that push. Penn State started its Class of 2023 with a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier and has since added three-star Joshua Miller from Virginia. The Class of 2022 includes four-star JB Nelson from Lackawanna College, four-star Drew Shelton from Downingtown, and three-star Maleek McNeil from New York.
