Former five-star linebacker, Alabama transfer Ben Davis commits to Texas

Alabama transfer linebacker Ben Davis officially announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Monday.

In early March, a report from Inside Texas stated that Alabama graduate transfer linebacker Ben Davis was expected to join Steve Sarkisian’s roster in Austin.

The former five-star prospect officially announced his commitment to the University of Texas on April 26. Davis spent five years in Tuscaloosa, redshirting his freshman year in 2016. He appeared in 23 games and recorded eight tackles, one sack and one pass breakup.

Davis ultimately chose to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Feb. 15 and was one of the most highly sought-after players in the portal.

In the 2016 recruiting class, Davis was rated the No. 1 player from the state of Alabama and a top 10 player in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound playmaker will make an immediate impact for Texas in the hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end role called the Jack. The Longhorns have now brought in LSU’s Ray Thornton, Notre Dame’s Ovie Oghoufo, New Mexico State’s Devin Richardson and Davis to try and fill the void of production left by Joseph Ossai.
