Former Buffs Tyler Bey, Richard Roby joining Team Colorado in The Basketball Tournament

Another pair of all-time great Buffs are joining the cause for Team Colorado

Former CU Buffs men’s basketball stars Tyler Bey and Richard Roby will be participating in The Basketball Tournament for Team Colorado, according to a recent announcement from the team.

The Basketball Tournament — popularly known as TBT — is a yearly winner-take-all single-elimination tournament that pits teams against one another to take home an impressive cash prize. Alumni teams have become popular additions to TBT, and Team Colorado is a squad consisting of former Buffs.

Bey will be playing for Team Colorado while Roby will serve as an assistant general manager, which will likely have him responsible for filling out the team and potentially helping in a coaching role when the tournament begins.

Bey had a productive three-year career for the Buffs, averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He also became a reliable option from deep in his final season in Boulder with a 41% clip.

Roby put up 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game over his time at CU from 2004-08 before embarking on an 11-year professional career.

The exact dates of this year’s TBT haven’t been announced, but it’s expected to be played sometime over the summer.

The prize pool in 2023 will be $1 million.
