Former UCLA signal caller Collin Schlee recently entered the transfer portal. But, he has announced he will play at Virginia Tech for the 2024 season. Schlee was at UCLA for just the 2023 season. He completed 11 passes in the Starco Brands LA Bowl that the Bruins won 35-22 over UCLA. He also threw one of his two touchdown passes on the season in that game. That game, Schlee also ran for a season-best 127 yards on seven carries.
Before his time at UCLA, he spent time as the starting quarterback at Kent State. He was named to the third-team all-MAC in his final season with the Golden Flashes. That season he completed 157 of 266 passes for 2,109 yards and 13 touchdowns.
When he gets to Blacksburg, he will immediately be in a battle for the starting quarterback position. Kyron Drones was the favorite before the news from Schlee. William Watson III is also going to be in the mix for the position.
The Hokies are slated to start their season on August 31st in Nashville. Virginia Tech will take on the Commodores of Vanderbilt.
