A former Buffalo Bills first-round pick is on the move again.
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins, selected fourth-overall by the Bills in 2014 after the team traded up, is now a member of the Green Bay Packers.
According to Packers Wire, Watkins landed a one-year, $4 million deal in Green Bay.
Watkins has not played in Buffalo since the 2016 season. He dealt with injuries early and often in his career and then when current Bills head coach Sean McDermott took over, the team traded him to the Los Angeles Rams.
Watkins’ only full NFL season was his rookie year–it was also his most productive. He saw 128 total targets that season and has yet to surpass the 100 threshold since.
Watkins only spent one year with the Rams before moving to the Kansas City Chiefs (2018-2020) and then Baltimore Ravens (2021).
In Green Bay, Watkins will have an opportunity to play with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Earlier this offseason, the Packers also traded star receiver Devante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, so there is a void to fill.
The 28-year-old joins the likes of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb currently on the Packers’ receiver depth chart.
Watkins will also be reunited with Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur after the two spent time together with the Rams.
While it could seem likely that the Pack will continue to add to their receiver core at the upcoming draft… you never know. They have often ignored the position in terms of the draft so Watkins might see a big opportunity there.
