He has pitched 21.2 innings in Wrigley Field this season. He has an astounding 0.83 ERA (earned run average) and 22 strikeouts. Overall, he is 3-0 with a 1.41 ERA.
In his time at Auburn, he had a 19-10 record with a 2.46 ERA. Thompson had his best season as a junior when he posted a 7-4 record with a solid 2.41 ERA. Following his junior season, he decided to declare for the 2017 MLB draft. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the third round.
The native of Cullman, Alabama has continued his success at the next level. In two seasons on the Cubs’ major league roster, he has a 6-3 record with a 2.64 ERA. As of right now, he leads the team in wins on the mound. He also has the lowest ERA out of all the starting pitchers on the Cubs roster.
