Former Alabama WR Calvin Ridley says he is stepping away from football

Calvin Ridley delivered us some shocking news this Halloween morning!

Calvin Ridley was a valuable asset to the Crimson Tide during his tenure at the Capstone, playing for Nick Saban from 2015 until 2018.

Ridley was charged with filling the giant shoes of Amari Cooper, another great Alabama wide receiver. Fill them he did, and his future in professional football was all but assured during his three incredible years of service to the Crimson Tide.

Ridley caught a grand total of 224 passes for a whopping 2,781 yards in his college career. Getting into the endzone was never an issue for the 6-1, 190-pound receiver, tallying up 19 touchdown catches in 44 games of use.

The Atlanta Falcons took Ridley with the 26th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft and gave him significant playing time immediately beside fellow Crimson Tide alum Julio Jones until 2021.

Ridley amassed more than 3,300 yards and 28 touchdowns throughout his NFL career, all of it being with the Falcons.

On Halloween morning, however, the sports world would receive a shocking revelation from the phenomenal wideout.

Ridley announced via Twitter that he was hanging up his cleats and stepping away from football for the foreseeable future.

While the news is shocking, it should be respected, especially if he’s doing it for his mental wellbeing.

We will continue to keep you updated on the status of every Crimson Tide alum in the NFL.
