The Tennessee Titans waived former Alabama defensive back Shyheim Carter on Monday. The team announced the news via the team’s Twitter page.
Carter spent four seasons in Tuscaloosa. He played primarily at the STAR position on Alabama’s defense. There, he started in 23 of the 50 games that he played in. Carter began to come along during his junior and senior seasons with the Crimson Tide. In the last two seasons of his college career, he recorded 87 tackles, six tackles for loss, and three interceptions.
After his senior season, he would go undrafted. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020. Since entering the league, he is yet to have recorded stats in an NFL regular season game. Altogether, Carter has been a practice squad player for three different teams: Titans, Jets, and Texans.
Now, he will be looking to join another team after being waived by the Titans. Each NFL team was tasked with transitioning their rosters from 85-man rosters to 80-man rosters on Tuesday. Unfortunately for Carter, he was one of the five. Nonetheless, he has proven that he will compete regardless of the contract. It will be interesting to see which team signs Carter next.
