Florida shoots up KenPom rankings thanks to win over Auburn

The Gators are just a hair outside on KenPom’s top 25 teams after beating Auburn.

Florida basketball defended its home court on Saturday against the invading Auburn Tigers and routed the visitors in an 81-65 victory that gave a wavering program a big boost.

Following the win, the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings saw the Gators rise seven spots from our previous update to No. 26 overall, putting them between No. 25 Texas Longhorns and No. 27 Kentucky Wildcats — the latter of whom they beat on the road two Wednesdays ago.

The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.

Golden’s gang now has a margin of plus-18.45 (up an eye-popping 1.43 points) which means the team is expected to score 18.45 more points than the average opponent. They rank tenth in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.7) and an improved 70th in adjusted defensive efficiency (100.3).

KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-8.33, which is now 30th in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received a score of plus-1.59 which puts the Gators at No. 123.

Next up for the Gators are the LSU Tigers, who come to Gainesville to take on Florida inside the O’Connell Center on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
