Florida head coach Dan Mullen is PFF’s Coach of the Year

Mullen is responsible for reviving a program that had reached depths unseen since the late 1970s, providing steady leadership to the team.

Florida Gators football saw a great deal of success on the field this fall despite a season-ending three-game losing streak that annihilated any national championship aspirations that may have been in the minds of the Gator Nation. But even getting that far into the season was an undertaking of its own with the coronavirus pandemic hovering over college football in 2020 as well as many other challenges.

Yes, the Gators finished with an underwhelming 8-4 record and yes, Florida faltered when it mattered most, but still in the eyes of PFF, UF’s head coach Dan Mullen was the best in college football this past fall.

Mullen is responsible for reviving a program that had reached depths unseen since the late 1970s, providing steady leadership that guided a once-heralded program out of its dire straits. In all three years at the helm in Gainesville, his team has played in a New Year’s Six bowl, winning the previous two before last Wednesday’s thumping by the Sooners.

Nonetheless, Mullen has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in the country — especially having put together one of the most impressive passing offenses seen in recent memory on the arm of former backup quarterback Kyle Trask.

His honor is very well earned and hopefully, he avoids the allure of the professional ranks and returns to Florida next season to continue working towards his goal of a national championship.
