Florida football’s senior transfer RB out for season with injury

Terrible news for the Gators and for Cam Carroll. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Florida football fans got some bad news on Saturday afternoon when head coach Billy Napier revealed that sixth-year redshirt senior transfer running back [autotag]Cam Carroll[/autotag], who came to Gainesville via the portal this offseason from the Tulane Green Wave, will miss the 2023 campaign.

The 6-foot, 231-pound back sustained a significant knee injury during Friday afternoon’s scrimmage which will require surgery to repair multiple ligaments.

The Magnolia State product finished second on Tulane’s squad in 2020 with 741 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, representing the highwater mark of his collegiate career. A coaching change resulted in him being the odd man out in 2022, but despite his two-star rating coming out of high school, he still offered the Gators some veteran stability in the running back room.

Now, freshman Treyaun Webb will likely assume the team’s third option in the backfield, followed by Ja’Kobi Jackson — a JUCO transfer — who also stands to benefit as a result of the injury.

Florida opens its 2023 schedule on the road against the Utah Utes on Aug. 31, with a kickoff time of 8 p.m. EDT.
