Florida favored by a hair in SEC Tournament rematch with Texas A&M

Here’s what the Basketball Power Index predicts for Saturday afternoon’s SEC Tournament matchup between Florida and Texas A&M.

Florida basketball has successfully navigated through its first two rounds of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, having gotten past the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday and Friday nights, respectively.

Now, the Gators are set for a rematch with the Texas A&M Aggies — who beat them in College Station last time they met by just a single point, 67-66 — on Saturday afternoon in the tournament semifinal round.

Using the Basketball Power Index, ESPN is giving Florida a 56.4% win probability and is projected to come out victorious by 1.7 points over Texas A&M. The matchup quality earned a 93.4-point grade, making it the highest-rated game played on Saturday.

“BPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward,” the site reads. “BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is… Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections.”

Florida is No. 28 in the NET rankings, while Texas A&M is No. 32, making this a Quadrant 1 game for both teams.

Florida faces Texas A&M starting around 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
