Flashback Friday: Texans stun Patriots with explosive offense in 2019

The Texans defeated the Patriots last time these two teams met.

The New England Patriots and Houston Texans met  in Week 12 of the 2019 season. For New England, this was a big game as they were trying to hold onto the first seed in the AFC. For the Texans, they were trying to gain ground, as playoff races were beginning to tighten.

The Patriots defense was not able to stop the Houston offense in the first half. Houston outscored New England 14-3 . between the arm of Watson and the passing game, the Texans were able to control the play in the first half.

It was all part of a big day for Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson who went 18-of-25 on the afternoon, throwing for 234 yards and three touchdowns. The Houston offense was buoyed by wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as well. He caught five receptions for 64 yards.

Tom Brady went 24-of-47 on the evening, throwing for 326 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. In what was a difficult first half, he began to catch fire in the second half.

James White played a big part for New England in both the rushing and receiving games. He had 14 carries for 79 yards, while he caught  eight passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Julian Edelman was the leading receiver, catching six passes for 106 yards.

A late fourth-quarter surge was not enough for the Patriots, as they were unable to stop the Texans.

The Patriots accumulated 448 yards, but were not able to parlay that into enough scoring drives offensively.
