FIW Tournament 2020: Final Four Set After Two Upsets

In the left side of your bracket we’ve got ’88 Miami and ’92 Penn State meeting up for a spot in the championship.  Now it’s time to examine the other side of the bracket, starting with the Hesburgh Regional Final.

Hesburgh Region:

The “Game of the Century” lived up to it’s hype yet again as Notre Dame’s 31-24 win over Florida State again dominated it’s opponent, this time it being an 80-20% win over the 2012 Oklahoma affair.

In the selection committee meetings the ’88 Miami and ’93 Florida State games were both the easy one-seeds and now we sit one round away from the two meeting in the title contest.  But first, the Miami thriller will have to get by the Snow Bowl and ’93 Florida State will have to get by the Golden Dome Regional Winner, which was…

Golden Dome Region:

What’s bigger?  Winning the national championship or beating your biggest rival in their place when they’re ranked second in the nation to get there?

The people have spoken and by the smallest of margins in the Elite Eight and in one of the closest contests in the entire tournament, it’s the second seed, 1988 USC knocking off the championship clincher over West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl.

Just because a title was won doesn’t mean it was a great game and that appears how most people saw things in that ’88 finale.  The regular season finish however wasn’t the best game Notre Dame played all season, although it did finish with a win over No. 2 USC despite being out gained significantly by the Trojans that day.
