Steve Sarkisian and his staff just landed one of the top players in the 2022 recruiting class.
Five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy committed to Texas on _____. He’s the highest rated recruit that Sarkisian has landed throughout his short stint Austin and is a top-4 quarterback prospect to ever come to the Forty Acres. Only Vince Young, Garrett Gilbert, and Chance Mock were ranked ahead of him.
Murphy is listed as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247Sports. At one point, Texas received a commitment from the No. 1 pro-style quarterback, Quinn Ewers, but that dream quickly slipped away. Fortunately for the Longhorns, Murphy is an incredible replacement for Ewers.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound California native is a top-30 player in the country. He’s compiled offers from dozens of well-respected Power Five programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and LSU among others.
Sarkisian re-offered Murphy shortly after arriving in Austin and has made him a top priority for the 2022 cycle. Texas has every right to be fired up right now as several other highly-touted recruits will likely follow in Murphy’s footsteps.
